Passionate sports fans

There are some pretty passionate high school sports fans in the county. While the game I photographed below (from a Feb. 8) was physical and the crowd very verbal, no fights broke out. The Hominy Bucks were playing the Pawnee Bears in Hominy. But two local high school games have led to fights and some crazy adult behavior. Saddly, I wasn’t at the games and didn’t get photographs. One was a Tuesday night, our deadline night, so I was busy helping layout the paper. The other was a night I had multiple games to cover and missed the fight while jetting between games. But someone did get a photo of the argument at the Tuesday game. Full story.

Honorary Officer

David Kanke, 5, who goes by ‘Lil D’ was made an honorary officer at the county sheriff’s office and Pawhuska Police Department. Kanke’s cancer was in remission but another tumor, this time on the left side of his throat, was discovered, prompting the act of making him an officer for the day. The departments also gave him his own “police car.”

UPDATE: Kanke’s latest scan came back and the tumor is gone.

My street was filled with smoke

I came home from a friends’ last night to find a house on fire just up the street. The whole street was filled with smoke. I had actually seen the smoke from outside of town, but it was night time and I assumed it was the factory smoke. Once I got into town I quickly realized that was not the case. No one was hurt, not even the guy’s two dogs, but the house had extensive smoke damage. The garage and all his work tools destroyed. Unfortunately the house and its contents weren’t insured.
